Lai Chau- Dien Bien
Lai Chau is a province in Northwest Vietnam that shares a border with China. Traveling through one of the most remote regions of Vietnam, the eight-lane avenues and monumental buildings of Lai Chau appear like a bizarre mirage. However, Lai Chau is surrounded by a landscape of verdant conical peaks capable of making even the most discerning visitors fall in love.
About 40 km to the south lies Dien Bien—a place primarily known for the events that occurred during the Indochina War. Situated in the heart-shaped Muong Thanh valley, the town is surrounded by numerous forested hills inhabited by the Thai, Hmong, and Si La people. It became a city in 2003 and the provincial capital a year later. Avenues and civic buildings were constructed, and Dien Bien airport now receives daily flights from Hanoi.
