Arrival in Vientiane, followed by customs formalities to obtain your entry visa.
Tourist Visa on Arrival (VOA) – the following documents are required:
- Passport with a residual validity of at least 6 months from the date of entry and at least 2 blank pages.
- One recent passport-sized photo.
- Visa stamping fee to be paid by the traveler (35 USD) for a single-entry visa.
After collecting your luggage and completing bureaucratic procedures (approx. 1 hour), you will be greeted by the driver and transferred to the hotel. Check-in at the hotel and free time available for relaxation. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Vientiane is a gem to be discovered slowly, to be enjoyed by savoring the old quarter along the Mekong. The name should be pronounced Wieng Chan: in Lao, Wieng means “city” or “walled place,” while Chan corresponds to the Laotian pronunciation of the Sanskrit terms “Chandana,” meaning sandalwood, or “Chandra,” meaning moon.

Today, you will begin exploring the city and its main attractions, including Wat Si Saket. Located in the heart of Vientiane, it was the only temple to survive the Siamese army invasion in 1828, making it the oldest temple in the city. Wat Si Saket houses more than 8,000 miniature Buddha statues. Next, we visit Wat Ho Phra Keo, the former home of the Emerald Buddha statue, and the That Luang Stupa, the most important monument in Laos. We will also see the Patuxai (Lao Arc de Triomphe); known as Vientiane’s Victory Gate, it was built in memory of those who died during the wars and has today become a historic landmark of the city.

In the afternoon, we transfer to visit Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan), an enchanting and scattered collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures located near the Friendship Bridge. There are approximately 200 religious images here. Watching the spectacular sunset over the Mekong River is the perfect way to conclude the day.

Transfer to the airport for your morning flight to Xieng Khouang, whose provincial capital is Phonsavan.
Upon arrival, set out to explore the famous Plain of Jars, one of the most mysterious and fascinating archaeological sites in Laos. The plateau is scattered with over 2,000 stone jars of various shapes and sizes—some weighing up to 6 tons—whose origin and function remain shrouded in mystery. The site, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, currently consists of three main areas accessible to the public:
- Site 1: The largest, containing about 250 jars;
- Site 2: With over 100 jars in a more tranquil setting;
- Site 3: Also featuring more than 100 jars, located on a panoramic hill.
The remaining areas of the plain are not yet open to visitors, as they still contain unexploded ordnance dating back to the wartime bombings.
Time permitting, in the late afternoon, the journey continues with a visit to the ancient capital Muang Khoun, famous for its historic ruins and temples that survived the war, as well as some traditional nearby villages where you can observe the customs of the local communities.

Early in the morning, visit the Phonsavan Central Market, where you will have the opportunity to observe the daily activities of local ethnic groups and the trade of goods between various tribal communities.
Afterward, depart for Luang Prabang. Along the way, we will stop to admire ancient Buddha images dating back approximately 200 years and visit traditional Hmong villages, renowned for their textile culture and mountain traditions.
A tea break will be taken at the Phou Khoun hall, an ideal viewpoint for a moment of relaxation, before continuing toward the magical Luang Prabang, undoubtedly one of the most fascinating destinations in Laos.
In the afternoon, the visit includes:
- Wat Visoun: featuring its impressive watermelon-shaped stupa.
- Wat Aham: one of the oldest and most spiritually significant temples.
- Wat Mai: famous for its golden decorations and stunning architecture.

Luang Prabang was the capital of Lan Xang, the “Kingdom of a Million Elephants,” from the 14th to the 16th century. It enjoys a privileged location, surrounded by mountains and nestled between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. With its surrounding hills and its position on a peninsula between the two rivers, its imposing temples, and its multi-ethnic population, Luang Prabang is incredibly evocative and harmonious—one of the most pleasant and charming places in Laos.

Departure to visit Wat Sene, the oldest temple in the city, followed by the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong, a masterpiece of Laotian religious architecture.
Next, board a traditional junk boat for a relaxing cruise along the Mekong River, admiring the enchanting rural landscapes along the banks. En route, we stop at the sacred Pak Ou Caves, an unmissable stop on any trip to Laos. The caves, located at the base of a limestone cliff, consist of two main cavities: the lower cave, accessible directly from the river, which appears as a wide opening protected by a white crenelated wall; a long staircase leads to the upper cave, offering a suggestive view. Inside the caves, you can still find thousands of Buddha statues left over the centuries by devout pilgrims—though many were unfortunately stolen in the past.
The journey continues with a visit to several traditional villages: Ban Xang Hai, famous for the artisanal production of rice wine; Ban Xieng Mene; and Ban Chan, known for its pottery production.
In the afternoon, visit the evocative Wat Long Khoun, an ancient royal temple located on the opposite bank of the Mekong. Upon returning to Luang Prabang, we stop at the village of Ban Phanom, celebrated for its hand-weaving.

Optional Activity: Early in the morning, you have the opportunity to participate in the Tak Bat, the ancient Buddhist ritual of the morning alms-giving, during which monks in saffron robes receive offerings (strictly food) from the local population. It is a moment of profound spirituality, silence, and respect that represents the most authentic soul of Luang Prabang.

After breakfast, visit the Phousi Morning Market, where you can browse through dried buffalo skins, local teas, typical food products, and traditional tribal textiles. Laos is famous for its artisanal crafts: today you will have the opportunity to meet local ethnic communities in the villages of Ban Ouay (Hmong ethnicity), Ban Ou (Lao Loum), Ban Thapene, and Khmu. This is an authentic chance to learn about the daily traditions of these fascinating peoples.
Continue toward the spectacular Kuang Si Falls, located about 37 km from Luang Prabang. We recommend following the unpaved trail that leads to the waterfall through lush nature and fairytale-like landscapes: limestone terraces, turquoise pools, and small cascades where it is also possible to go for a swim.
In the afternoon, visit the Ock Pop Tok Living Crafts Centre, where you can sit and relax, admire the sunset over the Mekong, taste some typical Laotian dishes, and observe local artisans at work on traditional looms.
Return to Luang Prabang in the evening with a stop at Wat Phabath to witness the sunset in an atmosphere of peace and contemplation.
