The “Luang Prabang Highlights Tour – Authentic Laos” begins with your arrival at Luang Prabang International Airport and the completion of customs formalities to obtain your entry visa.

Tourist Visa on Arrival (VOA) – required documents:

  • Passport with at least 6 months of residual validity from the date of entry and at least 2 blank pages.
  • One recent passport-sized photo.
  • Visa stamping fee to be paid by the traveler ($35 USD) for a single-entry visa.

After baggage claim and the completion of bureaucratic procedures (approx. 1 hour), you will be welcomed by the driver and transferred to the hotel. Check-in and free time to relax.

In the afternoon, a visit is scheduled to the impressive Wat Visoun stupa, followed by the Wat Aham and Wat Mai temples. In the evening, enjoy free time to independently explore the Night Market, where you can browse a splendid selection of handcrafted textiles.

Meals on your own. Overnight stay in Luang Prabang.

Luang Prabang was the capital of Lan Xang, the “Kingdom of a Million Elephants,” from the 14th to the 16th century. It is situated in a privileged location, surrounded by mountains and nestled between the Mekong and the Khan River. With its surrounding hills and its position on a peninsula of land between the two rivers, its imposing temples, and its multi-ethnic population, Luang Prabang offers a suggestive and harmonious atmosphere, making it one of the most pleasant and fascinating places in Laos.

Day 2

Walking

Breakfast at the hotel.

Departure for a visit to the oldest temple in Luang Prabang, Wat Sene, and the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong, an authentic masterpiece of Laotian religious architecture.

Next, you will embark on a traditional junk for a pleasant cruise along the Mekong River, taking in the tranquil surrounding countryside and evocative natural landscapes. During the navigation, we will stop at the famous Pak Ou Caves, which consist of two large cavities carved into the limestone rock: the lower cave (Tham Ting) appears as a vast rocky opening protected by a white crenelated wall. A long, winding staircase leads to the upper cave (Tham Theung), located higher up. Inside the lower cave, you will find thousands of Buddha statues left over the centuries by devotees as a sign of devotion—many of which, unfortunately, have been stolen and sold illegally.

The tour continues with visits to several local villages, including:

  • Ban Xang Hai, known for the production of traditional rice wine (lao-lao).
  • Ban Xiengmene, a peaceful village overlooking the river.
  • Ban Chan, famous for its handcrafted pottery.

In the afternoon, visit the evocative Wat Longkhoun, an ancient royal temple that once served as a place of meditation for kings.

Upon returning to Luang Prabang, we stop at Ban Phanom, a village celebrated for its hand-weaving. If time permits, we will also visit Ban Xang Khong and Ban Xieng Lek, small artisanal centers renowned for natural fiber processing and the production of traditional Saa paper.

Meals on your own. Overnight stay in Luang Prabang.

Day 3

Luang Prabang - Kuang Si Falls (B/-/-)

Walking

Optional Activity: Early in the morning, you have the opportunity to participate in the Tak Bat, the ancient Buddhist ritual of morning alms. During this ceremony, monks in saffron robes receive offerings (exclusively food) from the local population. It is a moment of profound spirituality, silence, and respect that represents the most authentic soul of Luang Prabang.

Breakfast at the hotel.

After returning to the hotel for breakfast, visit the Phousi Morning Market, where you can browse dried buffalo skins, local teas, typical food products, and traditional tribal textiles. Laos is famous for its artisanal crafts: today you will have the opportunity to meet local ethnic communities in the villages of Ban Ouay (Hmong ethnicity), Ban Ou (Laoloum), Ban Thapene, and Khmu. This is an authentic chance to learn about the daily traditions of these fascinating peoples.

Continue toward the spectacular Kuang Si Falls, located about 37 km from Luang Prabang. We recommend following the dirt path that leads to the waterfall through lush nature and fairytale landscapes: limestone terraces, turquoise pools, and small cascades where it is also possible to go for a swim.

In the afternoon, visit the Ock Pop Tok artisanal workshop. Here you can sit back and relax, admire the sunset over the Mekong, taste some typical Laotian dishes, and observe local craftswomen working on traditional looms.

Return to Luang Prabang in the evening with a stop at Wat Phabath to witness the sunset in an atmosphere of peace and reflection.

Meals on your own. Overnight stay in Luang Prabang.

Transfer to the Laos Spirit Resort, where you will have the opportunity to meet our elephant friends—gentle and well-cared-for animals in an environment that respects their well-being. The experience begins with an elephant ride lasting approximately 1 to 1.5 hours along the banks of the Nam Khan River, immersed in tropical nature. The route concludes based on the season:

  • During the rainy season: Arrival at the Tad Sae Waterfalls, perfect for a refreshing break.
  • During the dry season: The ride ends on a village trail, marking the start of an engaging outdoor activity—a pleasant trek through the surrounding rural villages.

This route is part of the Fair Trek initiative, a responsible tourism project aimed at directly involving local communities, enhancing the territory, and preserving both culture and the environment.

A traditional lunch will be served in the village of Ban Houay Fai.

After lunch, enjoy a brief period of free time to relax before your return: head back to the waterfalls or the boarding point for a boat trip toward the Laos Spirit Resort. Transfer by car back to Luang Prabang.

Dinner on your own and overnight stay at the hotel.
