As the sixth-longest river in the world, the Mekong River Delta provides a home for over 60 million people from diverse cultures and civilizations. The section of the river in Vietnam is nicknamed the “River of Nine Dragons” because it has nine tributaries flowing toward the sea.
The Mekong River Excursion begins with a departure from the frantic city of Saigon, continuing toward Ben Tre for an escape into the heart of the famous river. Here, you will admire its picturesque canals and markets while discovering a true civilization on the water: how people live, eat, work, and spend their days on small boats that serve as floating homes. An overnight stay at the beautiful Le Jardin du Mekong allows you to live like true Mekong citizens—a very interesting experience for all travelers.
The tour then proceeds with another boat journey that takes you from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh via another Mekong tributary, the Tonle Sap River, and finally to Tonle Sap Lake (the Great Lake). Three days in Siem Reap will be an unforgettable part of the Mekong River Excursion, as you walk through a territory of ancient myths and legends that tell of a lost civilization full of mysteries. Flying then to Pakse, you will reach another essential stop in the Mekong Delta: the famous 4,000 islands of Laos. Visits to Don Khong—the largest of the 4,000 islands—and the waterfalls offer a refreshing and exciting conclusion to this beautiful journey.
The trip can begin in Pakse (Laos) and end in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), or vice versa.

Ho Chi Minh City (also known by its former name, Saigon, which Vietnamese people still use today) is the economic center of Vietnam. As the largest city in the country, Saigon is dynamic with many industrial zones. Together with Hanoi—the political capital—Ho Chi Minh City, the economic capital, forms another core of the country; both have created the main strength of Vietnam. It is a place where young and old, rich and poor, and tradition and modernity coexist.

Departure for a visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels, built by the Viet Cong outside Saigon during the Vietnam War; they represent an extraordinary example of highly ingenious engineering. Return to Saigon. Free lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, a tour of Saigon: the Post Office, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Chinatown district with the Thien Hau Pagoda. Check-in and accommodation at the hotel.
A short distance from Saigon, Cu Chi was the district most heavily devastated, deforested, leveled, bombed, and poisoned with various chemical agents, including Agent Orange, during the Vietnam War. In the 1940s, to escape mandatory conscription, French attacks, and to maintain contact between villages, underground tunnels began to be excavated. In the 1960s, the Viet Cong extended them to more than 250 km, and since then, they became legendary during the “American War.” Structured in several layers up to 5–6 meters deep, the network included dormitories, kitchens, schools, hospitals, and weapons factories. At lower levels, the guerrilla tunnels were often equipped with traps in case adversaries managed to penetrate them. During the excursion, you will visit a section of the tunnels to experience the sensations of underground life. Cu Chi is an excellent example of the spirit and determination of the Vietnamese people.
