It is recommended to verify any updates or changes to validity requirements with the relevant Cambodian diplomatic authorities, such as:
The Embassy of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Paris (competent for Italy).

A visa is required for international citizens (including Italians) entering Cambodia, even for short tourist stays.
A tourist visa can be requested online (e-Visa) via the official Cambodian Government portal or obtained upon arrival (Visa on Arrival) at international airports and selected land border crossings.
For stays exceeding 30 days or for purposes other than tourism (work, study, business), a specific visa must be requested from the competent authorities prior to entry.
Currency and Customs Formalities – Entering Cambodia
Upon arrival in Cambodia, travelers may be required to complete a customs declaration form, which is distributed on board before landing or available at border crossings.
Once verified and stamped by the Customs Authorities, this declaration must be kept carefully until departure, as it may need to be returned to the authorities at that time.
Mandatory Declaration:
Cash amounts exceeding 10,000 USD (or equivalent in other currencies) must be obligatorily declared upon entry.
The possession of the following must also be declared:
Precious metals.
Valuable jewelry.

Upon collecting your luggage, immediately check for signs of damage or missing items. Do not leave the airport if you notice any issues. Proceed directly to the Lost & Found office or the airline’s baggage service desk.
- Filing a PIR (Property Irregularity Report)
Staff will record a PIR, the official document certifying the issue.
⚠️ Keep the PIR reference number safely, as it is essential for any reimbursement or compensation claims.
- Claim Timelines
Damaged or missing items: Within 7 days of the scheduled delivery date.
Delayed baggage: Within 21 days of the scheduled delivery date.
- Tracking Your Luggage
Airlines often use the WorldTracer system to locate missing bags. Passengers can provide additional information or update delivery addresses through this system.
- Delivery of Found Luggage
Once located, the bag will be delivered as agreed. You may collect it at the airport or request home/hotel delivery, subject to local customs regulations.
- Compensation and Reimbursement
If luggage is not found within 21 days, you may initiate a claim:
International liability limit: Approximately 1,000 SDR (Special Drawing Rights) per passenger.
Alternatively, approximately 20 USD/kg, depending on applicable international conventions.

Copy of the completed PIR form.
Original baggage tag.

PRACTICAL TIPS TO PREVENT ISSUES
Take photos of your luggage before check-in as a record.
Attach an identification tag with clear contact details (name, phone, email) on the outside.

WEATHER AND CLIMATE
Cambodia has a smaller land area compared to Vietnam, featuring a relatively uniform tropical monsoon climate across the entire country. Temperatures remain high year-round, and humidity is generally elevated, which can increase the perceived heat, especially during the rainier months.
Main Seasons
Cambodia has two primary seasons, influenced by the monsoons:
Dry Season (November – April):
Warm and sunny weather, with temperatures ranging between 28°C and 35°C.
The months from December to February are considered the best time to visit the country, thanks to a drier and more pleasant climate.
Rainy Season (May – October):
Characterized by heavy rainfall, often concentrated in the late afternoon or evening.
High humidity levels persist, with temperatures remaining elevated between 25°C and 33°C.
September and October are generally the wettest months of the year.
Average Temperatures
Annual average temperature: approximately 27–29°C.
In inland regions and major cities (e.g., Phnom Penh, Siem Reap), the heat can be more intense.
Mountainous areas, such as Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri, offer slightly cooler climates, especially at night.
Tips for Travelers:
Wear lightweight and breathable clothing, but also carry a raincoat or umbrella during the humid months. Do not forget sun protection and ensure regular hydration throughout the day.
PACKING GUIDE – CAMBODIA
Your wardrobe needs for Cambodia depend on the season and your planned activities. However, given the consistent tropical climate, you can follow these general guidelines.
General Rule
Traveling light is always a wise choice.
Local laundry services are widespread, affordable, and efficient in all cities (dry cleaning is typically available only in high-end hotels).
Well-stocked shopping malls are available in major cities like Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville for any last-minute needs.
Seasonal Packing List
Year-round (Hot and Humid):
Lightweight, breathable clothing (cotton or linen).
Light long-sleeved tops for protection against the sun and insects.
A lightweight raincoat and quick-drying sandals/shoes (essential during the rainy season, May–October).
Footwear for Classic Itineraries
Comfortable sneakers are sufficient for most trips.
Professional trekking boots are generally unnecessary for visits to temples, museums, markets, or urban sites.
Religious Sites (Temples and Pagodas)
When visiting sites like Angkor Wat, it is mandatory to wear clothing that covers both shoulders and knees.
Even where not strictly required, respectful attire is always recommended to honor local culture.
Excursions and Remote Areas (e.g., Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri)
Long, breathable clothing and sturdy closed-toe shoes.
Hat, UV protection (sunglasses/sunscreen), and insect repellent.
For challenging treks: Lightweight trekking or trail shoes, an ergonomic backpack, and waterproof dry bags for electronics and documents.
Essential Check-list
Breathable T-shirts and lightweight trousers.
Walking shoes and sandals.
Rain jacket or windbreaker.
A scarf or sarong for temple visits.
High-SPF sunscreen and mosquito repellent.
SUN, RAIN, AND HEALTH PROTECTION
Rainy Season (May – October)
Rainfall is often brief but intense.
Raincoats vs. Ponchos: While raincoats offer quick protection, they can become uncomfortable in the heat. A lightweight, breathable poncho is often a better alternative for walking.
Umbrellas: All our tour vehicles are equipped with umbrellas for guest use.
Waterproof Bags: Highly recommended to protect cameras and documents during sudden downpours.
Sun Exposure and UV Protection
The UV index is very high, especially between 11:00 and 15:00, even on cloudy days.
Use high-protection sunscreen (SPF 30+) and reapply regularly.
Hydration: Drink plenty of bottled water, even if you don’t feel thirsty, to avoid dehydration. Avoid excessive alcohol or sugary drinks during the hottest hours.
Mosquito Protection
Mosquitoes are most active during the rainy season and in rural/wetland areas (e.g., Tonlé Sap).
Repellents: Use products containing DEET (20-30%), Icaridin, or Lemon Eucalyptus oil.
Clothing: Wear light-colored long clothing in the evening, as mosquitoes are more attracted to dark colors.
Vaccinations and Health Advice
No mandatory vaccinations are required for travelers from Europe (unless arriving from a Yellow Fever risk zone).
Our Suggestion: For classic tourist itineraries, specific vaccinations are generally not necessary. However, this is based on local experience and does not constitute medical advice. Always consult your doctor or a travel clinic at least one month before departure.
Food and Water Hygiene
To avoid gastrointestinal issues:
Avoid raw or undercooked meat, fish, and unwashed salads.
Drink only sealed bottled water; avoid tap water.
Avoid ice unless you are certain it is made from purified water.
Use hand sanitizer or wash hands frequently.
For tours with included meals, we only use vetted restaurants with high hygiene standards.
SAFETY AND SECURITY
A Safe and Welcoming Country
Cambodia is a traditionally hospitable nation and, in most cases, safe for solo travelers, couples, or groups.
Local authorities place a high priority on protecting the tourism sector, which is vital to the national economy.
Our curated tours are structured to ensure comfort and peace of mind, even during evening transfers or visits to off-the-beaten-path areas.
Recommended Conduct
A respectful attitude towards local people, Khmer culture, and religious traditions is key to a rewarding experience.
We advise avoiding:
Unnecessary arguments or controversies.
Ambiguous locations or unclear situations, particularly late at night.
Taking photos of law enforcement, government buildings, monks, or children without explicit consent.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Cambodian legislation is extremely strict regarding:
Drug possession or trafficking, even in minimal quantities.
Prostitution and sexual exploitation.
Crimes against minors.
These are considered very serious offenses, punishable by long prison sentences and, in some cases, permanent deportation.
CURRENCY AND PAYMENTS
Local Currency
The official currency of Cambodia is the Cambodian Riel (KHR).
Common banknotes in circulation include: 100, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000 Riel. Coins are rarely used in daily transactions.
Indicative Exchange Rates (at time of publication):
1 USD ≈ 4,100 KHR
1 EUR ≈ 4,500 KHR
(Rates fluctuate; please verify current rates before or during your trip.)
Important Note: The US Dollar (USD) is widely accepted throughout the country, even for small payments. You will often receive change in a combination of USD and Riel.
ATMs and Withdrawals
Cambodia has an extensive network of ATMs available in all major cities, tourist hubs, airports, and shopping centers.
International cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted in hotels, upscale restaurants, and large shops, primarily in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville.
However, cash remains essential for local markets, street food stalls, tuk-tuks, and rural areas.
Practical Tips
Always carry small denomination bills, which are useful for:
Daily purchases and street food.
Tipping.
Local transportation (tuk-tuks, taxis).
Exchange currency only at:
Banks.
Official exchange counters.
Reputable hotels.
Avoid street money changers or unauthorized individuals.
TIPPING ETIQUETTE
A Generous Gesture, Not an Obligation
In Cambodia, tipping is not mandatory, but it is highly regarded and appreciated, especially within the tourism sector.
Leaving a tip is a personal choice and serves as a reflection of your satisfaction with the service provided.
Where and How Much to Tip (Indicative Amounts)
| Service | Recommended Tip |
| Tour Guide (2–6 people) | 5 USD per person / day |
| Tour Guide (6–15 people) | 3 USD per person / day |
| Driver | 2 USD per person / day |
| Porters | 1–2 USD per bag |
| Tuk-tuk / Rickshaw | 1–2 USD per person (if satisfied) |
| International Restaurants | Approx. 10% of the bill (if not included) |
| Local Eateries | No tip expected; at your discretion |
| Temples / Pagodas | No tip; small donations in offering boxes are customary |
Note: Tipping and porterage fees are never included in Amo Travel packages.
Practical Tips
Carry small denomination bills or local Riel for:
Small tips and gestures of courtesy.
Offerings at temples.
At Temples: Even a small, symbolic donation is a sign of respect toward local culture and spirituality.
At Bars and Cafés: Tipping is not expected, but it can be left as a personal gesture for particularly attentive service.
ELECTRICAL OUTLETS
Voltage
In Cambodia, the standard voltage is 230V with a frequency of 50Hz. This is fully compatible with European and Italian devices (220V–230V).
Plug Types
The most common electrical outlets are Types A, C, and G:
Type C (Standard European 2-pin): Works directly without an adapter.
Type G (British-style 3-pin): Often used for grounded devices like laptops. A universal adapter is required for these outlets.
Practical Advice
We recommend carrying a universal travel adapter.
A compact power strip can be very useful if you need to charge multiple devices simultaneously.
Always verify the supported voltage on your devices’ labels before connecting them.
INTERNET AND WI-FI
Widespread and Accessible Connection
Cambodia is well-connected. In major cities (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville) and tourist hubs, free Wi-Fi with satisfactory speeds is easily found in:
Hotels and guesthouses.
Cafés and restaurants.
Homestays.
Internet Cafés
While becoming less common due to mobile data, they still exist in some urban areas for those who need to:
Print documents.
Access maps or emails without a personal device.
Use high-speed connections at a very low cost.
Mobile Data Alternatives
Cambodian SIM cards (Metfone, Smart, Cellcard) offer very affordable 4G/5G data packages. These are easy to purchase and register using your passport.
This is the ideal solution for staying connected throughout your journey. (Refer to the “Telephony” section for more details).
Practical Tip:
For travelers visiting rural areas, remote temples, or during long transfers, a local SIM card is highly recommended for:
Real-time navigation and GPS.
Instant translations.
Emergency contacts or VoIP calls (WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.).
CAMBODIAN CUISINE AND FOOD SAFETY
A Gastronomy Rich in Tradition
Cambodia offers a simple yet surprisingly flavorful cuisine, with Khmer, Chinese, Vietnamese, and French influences.
Among the most famous and widespread dishes you will find:
Amok: Fish (or chicken) steamed in coconut milk with curry, often served in banana leaves.
Lok Lak: Stir-fried marinated beef, served with rice and a lime-pepper dipping sauce.
Bai Sach Chrouk: Grilled pork with rice, a classic Cambodian breakfast.
Nom Banh Chok: Rice noodles with fermented fish-based green curry sauce and fresh vegetables.
Spring rolls, soups, aromatic curries, and exotic fruits complete the local gastronomic experience.
Exploring Local Flavors with Care
Tasting local food is an integral part of your journey in Cambodia. However, it is important to pay attention to hygiene, particularly when consuming:
Street food.
Meals in very budget-friendly or basic eateries.
Tips for Eating Safely
Choose restaurants recommended by your guide or hotel.
Avoid raw or undercooked foods, especially meat, fish, seafood, and eggs.
When buying street food, observe:
The cleanliness of the stall.
If the vendor uses gloves or proper utensils.
If the place is busy with local customers (a sign of freshness and quality).
Practical Advice: Always carry hand sanitizer or disinfectant wipes. Do not hesitate to ask your local staff for recommendations on where to eat safely.
Meals in Hotels and Local Restaurants
Breakfast
Most hotels offer buffet breakfasts featuring:
Western options (bread, butter, jam, coffee, eggs, fruit).
Light local dishes, such as fried rice or traditional noodle soups.
Booked Lunches and Dinners
Meals included in the tour (at hotels or selected restaurants) are typically:
Served as a set menu, predominantly in Cambodian style.
Drinks are excluded (water, soft drinks, beer, or wine are to be paid for separately).
Standards and Quality
The selected local restaurants generally offer good levels of cleanliness and quality, but please remember:
Hygiene and service standards may differ from European ones, particularly in rural areas.
The local dining experience may be simpler but more authentic.
Practical Advice: If you have food intolerances or specific dietary requirements, please inform the organizers or your guide in advance. Many venues will be happy to offer simple alternatives.

DRINKING WATER
Potable Water in Cambodia

Tap water is not potable, even if boiled, and should be avoided for drinking, brushing teeth, or preparing beverages.
Bottled Water
It is easily available everywhere: supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, and street stalls at a very low cost.
During your tour, your guide will provide one bottle of water per person per day. However, we recommend carrying a small extra supply, especially during long transfers, excursions, or on particularly hot days.
SHOPPING AND MARKETS
What to Buy
During your journey in Cambodia, you will find high-quality local handicrafts and traditional products made of:
Rattan, bamboo, and wood carvings.
Silver, gold, and semi-precious stones.
Ceramics and lacquerware.
Silk, traditional embroidery, and hand-woven textiles.
Custom-made clothing (tailored within a few days).
Artistic souvenirs and home decor.

VALUABLES AND SECURITY
During Transfers and Transit
When traveling between hotels or during transfers (airports, excursions), please ensure that you always keep your valuables with you in your carry-on luggage, including:
Cash and credit cards.
Passports and travel documents.
Electronic devices (laptops, cameras, smartphones).
Jewelry or important personal papers.
Hotel Safety Deposit Boxes
We strongly recommend utilizing the safety deposit boxes available in your hotel:
These are the most secure locations to store cash, passports, and precious items while you are out.
If you have items of exceptional value, please consult the hotel reception regarding the use of centralized safes or specific security instructions.
Daily Precautions
In crowded areas (such as local markets, busy tourist streets, or public transportation):
Avoid carrying loosely hanging shoulder bags or keeping wallets in visible/easily accessible pockets.
Carry only what is necessary for the day.
Practical Tip: Keep a small amount of cash in an easily accessible pocket for quick purchases or tipping, so you do not have to open your wallet frequently in public.
MEDICAL SERVICES AND TRAVEL PHARMACY
Before You Depart
To fully enjoy your journey in Cambodia, it is advisable to be in good physical condition.
Consult your primary physician before departure to:
Evaluate your general health status.

If you must carry them in your hand luggage, please ensure you have:
A copy of the medical prescription.
