Discovering Vietnam: The Highlands Journey

An excursion of about 3 hours on the lake is scheduled, on board a motorized boat. We will meet fishermen rowing on their boats, loaded with shrimp and fish mats. You will have the opportunity to visit the old hydroelectric power station of Thac Ba from the port of Huong Ly. Then visit the Thuy Tien natural cave, which is 100 meters deep, hosting giant stalactites. Climb to the top and admire the green islands of the lake, an amazing panorama.

Arrival at the village of Ngoi Tu, inhabited by the White Dao ethnic minority. Accommodation in a homestay.

You will depart from Thac Ba and take a pass towards the mountains with wonderful landscapes, passing through Ha Giang. A province known for its breathtaking limestone mountains, formidable mountain passes, winding roads, and villages shrouded in mist. This area is a haven for various ethnic minority groups who continue to preserve their traditions and lifestyles.

Arrival in Ha Giang in the afternoon.

Begin the day with a transfer towards the scenic road with a view of Nui Doi (the twin mountains) in Tam Son and its karst landscapes.

We continue our adventure with a climb along a pass whose summit is over 1500 meters in altitude, very often among the clouds and mist. The Vietnamese call this famous site “the heaven’s gate of Quan Ba” to designate the height and its mystery. This is an ideal place to admire the majestic beauty of nature in its full splendor. Descent along a small zig-zag road.

Transfer to the village of Nam Dam of the Red Dao, where people still maintain traditional customs.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Despite the genuine hospitality of the local inhabitants and their willingness to be photographed, it is of fundamental importance to adopt an ethical and responsible attitude, but above all discreet and respectful, asking permission before entering private homes and before photographing faces, the interior of dwellings, and particularly private circumstances of the inhabitants.

The journey continues in the direction of Sung La, co-inhabited by two ethnic minority groups: H’mong and Flower Lo Lo. Visit to a typical old house made of wood and clay and to the palace of Vuong Chi Sinh, a stone palace carved into the rock, hidden at the bottom of the Sa Phin valley. Despite having crossed more than a century and many events, this palace still preserves its ancient beauty, little influenced by time, terrain, and climate.

Upon arrival in Dong Van we will take a walk to the historical quarter.

Day dedicated to the discovery of one of the highest and most imposing mountain passes in Vietnam, the Ma Pi Leng pass (Mountain shaped like the bridge of a Horse’s nose). This road, 25 km long, is perched on a mountain range above the Nho Que river and on the other side borders China. It was defined as the “road of happiness” by the Vietnamese after 11 months of work by various ethnic minorities in 1965.

Upon arrival in Dong Van we will take a walk to the historical quarter. At the end, accommodation in a homestay.

You will meet with the guide at the reception of your accommodation at 08:30. 

You will depart from Meo Vac for the journey to Du Gia, a village of Tay and H’mong people who live year-round beside a clear, green river. Take a bamboo raft trip, guided by an expert rafting captain along the crystal-clear waters of the river. Get in touch with wild nature during an unforgettable excursion. 

The day continues with a visit to the Du Gia waterfall; the stream flows directly from a waterfall about 6 meters high and 2 meters wide, running day and night. 

Return to Ha Giang. Overnight in Ha Giang.

Return to Hanoi.

You will meet with our driver (no guide) at the hotel reception at [to be defined].
