After collecting your luggage and completing the bureaucratic procedures (approx. 1 hour), you will be greeted by the driver and transferred to the hotel. Check-in at the hotel and free time available for relaxation. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Luang Prabang was the capital of Lan Xang, the “Kingdom of a Million Elephants,” from the 14th to the 16th century. Luang Prabang is situated in a privileged location, surrounded by mountains and nestled between the Mekong and the Nam Khan rivers. With its surrounding hills, located on a strip of land like a peninsula between the two rivers, its imposing temples, and its multi-ethnic population, the city of Luang Prabang takes on a suggestive and harmonious appearance, making it one of the most pleasant and fascinating places in Laos.

Optional Activity: Early in the morning, the opportunity to participate in the Tak Bat, the ancient Buddhist ritual of the morning alms giving, during which monks in saffron robes receive offerings (exclusively food) from the local population. A moment of great spirituality, silence, and respect that represents the most authentic soul of Luang Prabang.

In the morning, visit Wat Aham, followed by a visit to the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong, which represents the architectural essence of Luang Prabang with its overlapping roofs that sweep toward the ground. Do not miss the famous “Tree of Life” mosaic on the rear wall of the chapel. On the outer facade, a gilded panel illustrates semi-erotic scenes from the Ramayana.
Next, visit the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre (TAEC closed on Mondays), where you can admire a rich exhibition of artifacts, traditional costumes, instruments, and ritual objects belonging to the different ethnic groups of Northern Laos—a unique opportunity to delve into the extraordinary cultural diversity of the region.
In the late afternoon, climb Mount Phousi, which offers a spectacular panoramic view over the city and the Mekong River at sunset. At the summit, there is also a sacred stupa, a place of worship and meditation.
Return to Luang Prabang. In the evening, dinner on your own. You can visit the Night Market, perfect for strolling among stalls offering a selection of handmade textiles and local crafts.

After breakfast, transfer to the Phousi Market. This market is very lively and bustling, animated by the voices of merchants selling their wares. By visiting, you will have the opportunity to observe the vibrant trading activity of the local people.
We will then transfer to the outskirts of Luang Prabang, crossing green rice paddies and farms along the way. We will stop to visit some Hmong and Lao Loum villages; your guide will introduce you to the locals and involve you in their daily activities, such as cotton spinning, weaving, or harvesting rice and vegetables in the gardens.
We will also visit the Kuang Si Falls, where you can enjoy spectacular views within the park as the waterfalls cascade over multiple limestone tiers and down several hundred feet into a series of cool, turquoise pools.
Before returning to Luang Prabang, we will stop to visit the Kuang Si Butterfly Park (closed on Tuesdays), a must-see location where you can take an optional 30-minute tour to learn about local butterflies and flora.

If you wish, a 1-day cruise from Luang Prabang to Pakbeng is available.
The boat leaves Luang Prabang at 7:00 AM to navigate up the Mekong River toward Pakbeng. A continental breakfast is served on board.
In the morning, we will stop to visit the Pak Ou Caves (Tham Ting) and its over two thousand Buddha statues. It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for the Laotian people. A traditional Laotian lunch is served on board.
In the afternoon, our English-speaking guide will organize a small meeting to explain the different ethnic groups living in Laos. Arrival in Pakbeng before nightfall.
Dinner on your own and overnight stay in a homestay in Pakbeng.

After breakfast, at 8:30 AM, you will be met at your hotel by our guide and driver. We will board a local boat to continue the journey toward Pakbeng Elephant Village. The estate staff will provide an in-depth presentation about the elephants (10 min). Afterward, you will have the opportunity to feed and bathe them (20 min).
At the end of the tour, return to the lodge to collect your luggage. Transfer to visit the Tad Lae Falls (best during the rainy season from June to October). Tad Lae is a hidden gem in the Pakbeng mountains that is still little known and considered one of the natural treasures of Laos. Located in the Khmu village of Ban Xomsaya, it is reachable by tuk-tuk. You will be completely immersed in the local culture and will have the chance to socialize with the local people and discover natural treasures hidden from most tourists.
We then continue to Muang Xai, in the province of Oudomxay, the most mountainous region of Laos. The many villages dotting the hills and the hilly terrain make for an interesting journey. The area is populated by various ethnic groups, and you will see their homes along the way. We will pass through several minority villages such as Ban Na Teui, Namor, and Ban Tawan, which are home to the Lao Hui, Yao Mien, Lanten, and Hmong people.
Arrival in Muang Xai at the end of the day. Free time and overnight stay in a homestay in Muang Xai.
The province of Oudomxay is inhabited by a rich variety of 23 ethnic minority groups. During the journey, we will make several stops to allow you to meet some of these communities, including the Hmong, Khmu, Black Tai, and Lue. The mountain villagers are always friendly and welcoming, ready to greet you with a handshake and a genuine smile. After breakfast, departure by car to reach the picturesque fishing village of Nong Khiaw (~ 3 hours).
We will board a boat to navigate along the Nam Ou River to reach the charming village of Muang Ngoi. During the trip, you can admire the stunning landscapes lining the riverbanks.
Arrival in Muang Ngoi in the afternoon, where we will begin a 2-hour trek among the karst cliffs of the region. This trek offers the opportunity to get a closer look at the magnificent landscapes and the almost untouched vegetation of Laos, particularly the mountain scenery surrounding Muang Ngoi. The hike will be a pleasant walk through the rainforest and rice paddies to discover local natural beauties such as caves and villages.
We will visit Tham Kaang, an ancient cave that sheltered the villagers during the Indochina War (1960-1972) and remains intact today. Moving up and down the hills, we continue the excursion to Ban Na (a T’ai Deng ethnic village).
After the trek, we return to Muang Ngoi. Overnight stay in a Guesthouse (basic comfort) in Muang Ngoi.
