  1. HEALTH AND VACCINATIONS

Mandatory Vaccinations

There are no mandatory vaccinations required for entry into Thailand.

Recommended Vaccinations

It is generally advisable to be up to date with: Tetanus, Hepatitis A, and Typhoid.

A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is only required if you are arriving from an endemic area.

Personal Medication

Carry your routine medications along with a copy of the prescription (if necessary).

Drinking Water

Tap water is not potable in Thailand; please consume only bottled water.

  1. LUGGAGE AND PACKING LIST

General Advice

We recommend departing with light luggage. Many domestic airlines in Thailand have a standard checked baggage allowance of only 20 kg per person.

Thailand offers excellent shopping opportunities, so leave some extra space for your purchases!

Recommended Clothing

Lightweight, breathable, and cotton clothing is best suited for the climate.

A scarf or shawl to cover your shoulders when entering temples.

A long-sleeved shirt or light sweater for the evenings, especially in Northern Thailand or during the cooler months.

Swimwear for coastal destinations.

Footwear and Accessories

Comfortable walking shoes.

Light sandals or flip-flops for hot days.

A hat or cap for sun protection.

Other Essential Items

Sunscreen and mosquito repellent.

Travel electrical adapter: Thailand uses Type A, B, and C outlets (similar to Italy, but often featuring flat pins; a universal adapter is recommended).

  1. CLIMATE AND CLOTHING

November – February (Cool Season): The best time to visit; the weather is dry, cool, and sunny.

March – May (Hot Season): Very high temperatures, especially in the central regions.

June – October (Rainy Season): Short, intense tropical showers; however, the landscape remains lush and green.

  1. TIME ZONE AND ELECTRICITY

Time Zone: UTC +7. (7 hours ahead of GMT; 6 hours ahead of Central European Summer Time).

Electrical Outlets: Types A, B, and C (compatible with European plugs, but often feature flat-pin sockets).

Voltage: 220V.

  1. CURRENCY AND PAYMENTS

Currency and Exchange

The local currency is the Thai Baht (THB).

Exchanging money is easy in the cities, where the exchange rates are more favorable than at the airport.

Only Baht is accepted for transactions in Thailand. We recommend exchanging only a small amount at the airport and the remainder in the city.

Currency exchange booths and banks are generally open from 09:00 to 17:00 (closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays).

Cash and Cards

We suggest carrying cash in Euros or US Dollars, with at least one credit card as a backup.

Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and large retail stores.

In local markets, street stalls, and taxis, payment is strictly cash only.

ATMs are widely available; however, they apply a standard flat fee of 220 THB per withdrawal.

Please note that using credit cards for cash withdrawals may be difficult and often incurs high commissions and unfavorable exchange rates.

  1. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

Domestic Flights: Affordable and frequent for covering long distances between major hubs.

In the City:

Metered Taxis: Ensure the meter is turned on.

Grab: The primary ride-hailing app (similar to Uber).

Tuk-tuks: Always negotiate the fare before starting the journey.

Bangkok Mass Transit: Utilize the BTS (Skytrain) and MRT (Subway) to bypass traffic.

Tip: Avoid peak hours in Bangkok due to extremely heavy traffic congestion.

  1. SIM CARD AND INTERNET

Tourist SIM Cards: Readily available at the airport from major providers (AIS, TrueMove, DTAC) offering excellent coverage and affordable rates.

eSIM: You can purchase and activate an eSIM before departure through the official websites of these providers.

Useful Advice: For convenience, we recommend bringing a spare smartphone to use with the local SIM. This is helpful for navigation and staying in touch with local support.

  1. USEFUL APPS

Grab: For transportation and food delivery.

Google Maps: Navigation.

Google Translate: Including the Thai-English dictionary.

XE Currency: Real-time exchange rates.

AirVisual: To monitor air quality.

  1. TRAVEL INSURANCE

Highly Recommended: Ensure your policy covers medical expenses, trip cancellation, and lost luggage.

Note: Private clinics in Thailand offer excellent medical services but can be very expensive without insurance.

  1. LOCAL ETIQUETTE AND CULTURE

Dress Code: Dress respectfully in temples; shoulders and knees must be covered.

Footwear: Always remove your shoes before entering a home or a temple.

Head and Feet: Never touch someone’s head (it is considered the most sacred part of the body). Conversely, do not point your feet at people or sacred images.

Public Displays of Affection: Avoid PDA in sacred or public places.

The Monarchy: Never speak disrespectfully of the Thai Monarchy. This is a serious offense under Thai law (Lèse-majesté).

  1. ECO-FRIENDLY NOTES

Reduce Plastic: Use a reusable water bottle whenever possible.

Coral Protection: Avoid chemical sunscreens that damage coral reefs; please choose reef-safe biodegradable options.
